Job description

At Dalsem, we strive for a sustainable revolution in the greenhouse horticulture sector. Our state-of-the-art, high-tech greenhouses are at the forefront of technological advancement and sustainability, fully developed by us with systems for air, water, light, heat, and CO2 management. With greenhouses averaging 20 hectares in size, we are setting new standards for scale and efficiency. The heart of our organization is our factory in Den Hoorn, where our headquarters is also located—a place where design starts, and the final product goes out the door. Everything under one roof.

Since 2022, we have been part of Cofra's Sustainable Food Group, a family office with a long-term vision. Our goal: to become the international market leader in sustainable greenhouses.

Engineer Greenhouse Climate Systems

As a Climate Systems Engineer at Dalsem, you are responsible for developing, designing, and implementing efficient and sustainable climate systems for our high-tech greenhouses. This includes heating, cooling, CO2 dosing, and ventilation systems, as well as complete climate and energy systems. You ensure these systems perform optimally by determining the necessary heating and cooling capacities, selecting suitable heat and cold sources, and designing the distribution and delivery systems.

You will work closely with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to define project objectives and requirements. You start by designing systems based on client requirements and technical specifications, standards, and guidelines. This could range from developing a CO2 dosing system for a greenhouse in the desert to implementing an innovative heating system that utilizes residual heat from a nearby biomass plant for a greenhouse in Canada. Detailed technical calculations and planning are the foundation for the system's implementation.

In addition to design and implementation, you are also responsible for the integration of the systems. This means designing systems that not only meet the specific requirements and needs of our clients but also aim for maximum energy efficiency. Through your contributions, systems are implemented that provide the necessary climate with minimal energy input.

You will work in a team of 25 people in the engineering department, divided into different disciplines within our high-tech greenhouses. Within climate systems, you won’t be working alone; there’s already a specialist in this field on board. We are looking to expand this sub-team with two new employees: a junior and an experienced engineer.

Documentation and reporting are also important aspects of your role. You will contribute to improvement proposals, develop new standards and work methods, and ensure a timely and accurate flow of information to all internal and external stakeholders. You will regularly report to the Head of Engineering on project progress.

Job requirements

What will you bring?

  • A strong technical background, preferably in the (greenhouse) horticulture sector or another highly technical project organization.
  • Higher Professional Education (HBO) working and thinking level, preferably with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on Energy Technology, Installation Technology, or Mechatronics.
  • Practical knowledge of (3D) design software, such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Inventor.
  • Experience with data analysis and expertise in Excel.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to professionally support demanding clients as a team player.
  • A proactive attitude and the courage to take responsibility for your calculations and designs.
  • Proficiency in both English and Dutch, both written and spoken.

Competencies

  • Responsible and detail-oriented: You take responsibility for your work and ensure accuracy and quality in everything you do.
  • Analytical and precise: You can interpret technical specifications and make detailed calculations.
  • Innovative and technically proficient: You know how to effectively integrate new ideas and technologies into the design process.
  • Collaborative: You enjoy working with different teams and are good at communicating your ideas.
  • Flexible and skilled in time management: You manage your time efficiently and complete projects on schedule.

What makes this role unique?

At Dalsem, you will work on making the food industry more sustainable by developing high-tech and complex greenhouse systems. We have short lines of communication and efficient, fast decision-making. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to travel globally and tackle client-specific climate challenges, from the desert to cold regions like Canada. This provides a dynamic and challenging work environment where no two days are the same. Moreover, it offers you the unique opportunity to see your designs in practice and directly experience how they function for the client. You won’t just stay in the design office—you’ll travel to clients to see how your systems work in the field.

Are you proactive and willing to take responsibility for your calculations and designs? Do you want to be part of an innovative and forward-thinking company that is making a global impact? Apply now for the position of Climate Systems Engineer at Dalsem and accelerate your career!
